A five-day workshop for teaching techniques of Japanese woodblock print making concluded today at the Nomad Art Gallery which was well participated by the teachers, students and general public having interest in handmade paper prints. H.E. Mr. Hiroshi Inomata, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony and gave away certificates to the participants of this five-day workshop.
Ambassador Hiroshi Inomata in his remarks at the concluding ceremony deeply appreciated Dr Shahida Mansoor for transferring this art of woodblock print making to the Pakistani people. “It is because of her efforts that this workshop has been a very successful event where large number of Pakistanis got to experience this unique Japanese art”, said Ambassador Inomata. The ambassador also appreciated the interest of students in learning Japanese woodblock print making.
It is to be mentioned here that Dr. Shahida was granted Monbusho Scholarship by the Government of Japan and she is the first Pakistani recipient of the doctoral degree in the field of Japanese wood block print making, from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
While speaking at the occasion, President of MEXT Alumni Association of Pkaistan Dr. Khalid Rashid said the history and background of this unique and beautiful form of Japanese art, which is completely different from the comparable forms of western art, is now very well-known across the world.
Hafiz S.A.Rahman, President of Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association, while speaking expressed his gratitude to the Japanese Embassy and Dr. Shahida Mansoor for holding a workshop on such a unique Japanese art.
The Workshop was organized by the Embassy of Japan in collaboration with the Nomad Art Gallery, COMSATS University, MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan and Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association.
Ambassador Inomata also thanked Ms. Nageen Hyat, Director Nomad Art Gallery, for extending her cooperation in organizing this workshop at the gallery. (end)
